Acoustic Leak Detection

One important type of fugitive emission that is usually overlooked by most companies is internal valve leaks (e.g. blow-down valve leaking to flare line).  These emissions are not easily detected and can account for a significant amount of lost gas and increased GHG emissions.  TARGET addresses this issue with acoustic (ultrasonic) leak detection. 

During a leak, a fluid (liquid or gas) moves from a high pressure to a low pressure. As it passes through the leak site, a high frequency noise is generated. This noicse has strong ultrasonic components which can be detected using ultrasonic measurement devices.

TARGET crews utilize sensitive ultrasonic detection devises to detect and quantify internal valve leakage.
